If you are already a regular patient at Portobello Dental Clinic then you may have seen something about one of the treatments offered in our dental surgery, and which almost seems too good to be true. CEREC restorations in Dublin can be used to replace areas of decay in teeth instead of having a filling, inlay or onlay. They can even be used to fabricate crowns, and treatment can be completed in just one visit.
Precision Designed for a Precision Fit
We are one of the few clinics in Ireland to have a CEREC machine on site. CEREC is a milling machine that uses CAD/CAM technology to precision-make your restoration. The advantage of having your restoration milled from a single block of porcelain is that the resulting crown or inlay will be much stronger than if it were constructed using traditional techniques in a dental laboratory, and of course you will not need to wait weeks with a temporary crown or filling.
No Need for Messy Impressions
Your tooth is prepared in the conventional way, but from then on the process is quite different. If you struggle with a strong gag reflex that makes conventional impression taking tricky, then you will really appreciate having CEREC in Dublin. This is because our dentist in Dublin will not need to take an impression. Instead a camera is used to scan the preparation, and this information creates a 3D digital image of your tooth. Your dentist will then use this image to design your new crown or filling right before your eyes.
Once they are happy with the design, the information is sent to the milling machine so it can begin to make your crown or filling. This is done using a single block of porcelain that will have been pre-selected by your dentist. We carry a large selection of different porcelain blocks in varying shades and translucencies, ensuring your finished crown or inlay will blend in beautifully with the rest of your natural teeth. The actual milling process is pretty quick, after which your crown or filling will be checked and finished, before it is tried in by your dentist. They will make sure the fit is perfect before it is permanently bonded onto your tooth.
It is easy to see the advantages of choosing CEREC in Dublin, as you can leave Portobello Dental Clinic with your new crown firmly cemented in position, with no need to worry about finding the time for another appointment for fitting. It can also be the perfect solution if you happen to break a crown before a big event. Even though our temporary crowns will look reasonable, they will not look as beautiful as your new CEREC crown.
CEREC in Dublin will be a great choice for many types of restorations, but it might not be ideal in all cases. For example if you intend to have an extensive smile makeover then you could still benefit from having it made the old-fashioned way, even if it takes a bit longer. We will always be honest with you if we think this is the case.
